Pomodoro

No no no! Not the vegetable! The Pomodoro Technique helps your productivity in work and studying.

The Pomodoro technique is simple: Study/work for 25 minutes and then take a 5 minute break to clear your head. Start another Pomodoro (25 minute session) and then 5 minute break. After 4 Pomodoros you get a longer break (usually 15 minutes). Click here for a more detailed explanation and more ideas to further your use of the technique.

I’ve been using this and so far it has helped me stay productive AND refreshed. Here are the two three apps I’ve found to work best. I still haven’t found a simple Windows app yet.

Edit: Kristian, from the comments, pointed me to CherryTomato. This looks like a really cool application and one I’ll use when I’m on the Windows side of things.

SpamSieve – Mac Spam Filtering

I was drowning in spam in my inbox and I was using Apple Mail’s Junk Filter. I installed SpamSieve and now spam is no more! SpamSieve has saved my email inbox and it’s SO GOOD-I stopped using Gmail’s spam filter and SpamSieve is still kicking.

Whenever I see a good email that is counted spam (very rarely) or spam that is counted as good email (very rarely) I tell SpamSieve and then any more emails like that one are correctly identified. So if spam is a problem for you, download SpamSieve!

Get the IMDB on your iPhone

I’m usually the one that’s asked about movie showtimes, what’s out or who was in a movie. I used to have to access the full IMDB site on my iPhone, which sometimes was slow due to my 3G connection. Well now that IMDB released their own app-I’m able to get everything I need with very few clicks.

Sequel Pro — MySQL database management app for Mac OS X

Update: Found an even nicer application called Querious! I like it even better than Sequel Pro. – Check out the review on TheAppleBlog.

Querious feels much more native than Sequel Pro. For example: when your browsing the list of tables and you want to rename one-simply hit Return on your keyboard and the name is editable. Just like in a lot of other Mac applications. The overall quality feels really good and yes, I am a sucker of eyecandy and UIs (ONE of the reasons I own an iPhone! :P ).

ORIGINAL POST

Why did I not find this before? This has made using MySQL so much easier! Plus, it’s FREE! :)

Get Sequel Pro

Edit: I successfully renamed a bunch of tables to add prefixes to them and even moved a huge database, both things would have been completely nearly impossible in phpMyAdmin!
